HISTORY
This Institution stands as the pillar of God’s mission in the midst of the rich cultural land of Arunachal Pradesh. It is a home seeking to equip and mould committed God’s servants with the Biblio-Centric training to run the churches with efficient leadership, overcoming hampers in the advancement of science and technology and the growth of the churches and also individual total being.
God’s promise to shatter the strong holds of devils in this region was fulfilled when this Institution was actualized as the first Theological Institution by providing an opportunity to all the Church leaders and also to any zealous disciples of Jesus Christ to undergo certain period (s) of training to carry out the great commission of Christ. The primary intention for establishment of this Institute is, to do away the massive existence of untrained church leaders. So, the Institution aims to train especially all the church pastors, women leaders, youth leaders, Sunday school leaders and other church related leaders with basic Biblical knowledge.
One of the most urgent need and long desire of Nyishi Baptist Church Council NBCC (the then Subansiri Baptist Christian Association, SBCA) was to open a Theological Training Institution in this region where all the church leaders of this region and beyond may get Theological Training and run the churches with efficient leadership.
The year 1996 was the historic year for SBCA (NBCC) as she could celebrate her Silver Jubilee on 10th to 13th Oct' 96 at Naharlagun as the mark of its 25th years of Gospel Ministry in the region in a span and splendor ways. Although SBCA celebrated its Silver Jubilee yet she realized that almost all the Baptist Church leaders of SBCA (NBCC) are untrained which hampered a lot in the advancement of spiritual development, education and other development in the churches. So she felt that in order to meet these challenges, the greatest need as such is to set up a Theological Training Institution where all the church leaders could be trained in basic Theological course of mission and Evangelism, Church planting and etc. So in the Silver Jubilee this was one of the projects and on 18th November 1996 in the SBCA Executive Meeting, the members unanimously approved to start the same by appointing the Board Members.
The Board of Governor met on 18th April 1997 and finalized the project to be action and approved on 15th May 1997. Thus, finally the Institute was inaugurated on 15th May 1997. So The Arunachal Theological College (then Arunachal Bible Training Institute) is an answered to that urgent need and long desired of NBCC, then SBCA where God’s own plan and desire can be known, heard and get trained from this region in this institute in vigorous ways.
The Arunachal Theological College, Moinhappa-Itanagar is under the umbrella of Nyishi Baptist Church Council (NBCC), through which all the supports, needs and function for Institution would be channeled. However, to start with, the immediate needs have been made possible through the prayer supports and generous contribution from such as ATC founding, Patron and Supporting members, plus free will offerings and donations.
The College sifted from Naharlagun, NBCC mission Compound to its permanent campus Moinhappa in year 2011. Moinhappa is located 8 Km (approx) away from the Itanagar and it is attached to the Calvary English School, Moinhappa Campus.
Arunachal Theological College got fullpladged Asia Theological Association (ATA) Accrediated member in the year 2018 and become first and lone theological college in the entire state to have ATA accrediation.
